Main purpose of the job
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) is on a journey of institutional renewal and is steadfast in its pursuit of excellence as it embarks on a new strategic direction and the roll-out of a new Strategic Plan 2026-2030 aligned to its Vision 2030. The University wishes to invite applications for the strategic position of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning will play a pivotal role in propelling CUT towards its 2030 Vision by strategically driving and enhancing the academic portfolio. This critical role will focus on fostering a dynamic, future-oriented Teaching and Learning environment that promotes innovation, inclusivity, and excellence within the academic space. Through the alignment of academic initiatives with CUT’s vision, mission, and values, the DVC: Teaching and Learning will ensure that all programmes and academic support structures are geared toward achieving holistic student success, graduate employability, and societal impact. By championing curriculum transformation, technology-enhanced learning, and staff development, this role will be instrumental in positioning CUT as a leading university of technology that responds effectively to the evolving demands of the 21st-century in the higher education landscape and ultimately achieving CUT’s 2030 vision

Main tasks
Provides Strategic Leadership to:

Faculties

Management of the Teaching and Learning division

Strategy and compliance

Strategic Partnerships and Advancement
The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching

The Unit for WIL and Skills Development

Nature of appointment: Five-year Executive Manager performance-based contract

Minimum salary scale (Total Cost to Company): Available on request

Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or Experience

• A Doctoral-level degree • At least ten years of executive / senior managerial experience in a higher education environment • Academic teaching experience with evidence of excellence in research and teaching • Accredited scholarly publications • Academic credibility as recognised by peers and the business environment
• Extensive knowledge in areas of leadership/strategy/management, and research. Desired Qualification, Knowledge and/or Experience
• In addition to a Doctorate, a management qualification or equivalent • NRF-rating as a researcher
• Full Professor
