Title: Provide a bankable wind resource assessment for a potential new wind farm in the Mohale’s Hoek district of Lesotho
On behalf of the European Union Delegation of Lesotho and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) implements the GET.invest programme activities in Lesotho to mobilise the private sector and build a pipeline of decentralised renewable energy projects for investment.
GIZ is seeking to appoint a qualified contractor to design, execute, and provide a bankable wind resource assessment (“WRA”) for a new wind farm in the Mohale’s Hoek district of Lesotho. The anticipated wind farm is to have around 60MW of installed capacity. The project site is located approximately 5km east of the town of Mohale’s Hoek on a mountain ridge that is oriented NE to SW. The Mohale’s Hoek wind farm will consist of 12 wind turbines located on this mountain ridge.
To provide a bankable wind resource assessment, the Contractor is expected to implement a wind measurement campaign with two met masts conforming to international standards. A minimum of 12 consecutive months of validated, high-quality wind and meteorological data will be required.
The following high level project phases will be expected from the contractor:
Preparation Phase – Geotech surveys, installation design (including all foundations and anchorage, approvals.
Installation Phase – install and commission the 2 masts, fully tested.
Post-Construction Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer – capacitate locals.
Measurement Campaign Phase – collect data, report data, maintain installations.
Reporting and Handover Phase – periodical reports and technical support.
