nomination of candidates to the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) Board
CALL FOR THE NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES TO SERVE ON THE TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION AGENCY BOARD
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation hereby invites interested parties to nominate candidates to be considered for appointment to the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) Board in line with section 5 of the TIA Act, 2008 (Act No. 26 of 2008).
The objective of TIA is to support the state in stimulating and intensifying technological innovation to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans by developing and exploiting technological innovations.
In terms of section 5(1) of the Act, the Board must consist of a chairperson, no fewer than six and
no more than nine members; and the Chief Executive Officer of TIA, who will be an ex officio member.
Board members will be appointed in their personal capacities and will serve on a part-time basis for a term not exceeding four years, effective from 1 November 2025. Allowances will be paid in accordance with the National Treasury’s guidelines for the remuneration of board members.
The members of the Board will be appointed on the grounds of their knowledge and experience in technological innovation, technology management, intellectual property and its commercial-isation, and business skills which, when considered collectively, will enable the Board to attain the objects of the Agency.
In addition to the requirements of the Act, members should also have significant experience in corporate governance, ideally in institutions of a similar stature to TIA.
Nominations should be submitted to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation by no later than 11 July 2025. Please email nominations to [email protected], accompanied by the candidate’s curriculum vitae, including the following information: full names, identity number, gender, race, current designation and responsibilities, contact details (postal and email addresses, and cellular and landline numbers), qualifications, current and past service on boards, areas of expertise, and the names and contact details of at least two referees.
Confirmation of the availability of the nominee is also required.
NB: Nominations will not be considered unless all the requirements set out above are met.
