The School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointment as a Senior Lecturer (or Lecturer) in the field of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering with specialisation in process pyrometallurgy. The position entails teaching students in the fields of non-ferrous and ferrous pyrometallurgy, pyrometallurgical process modelling, simulation and design, phase equilibria and metallurgical thermodynamics. However, experience in teaching a number of general process metallurgical engineering subjects will be an added advantage. The ideal candidates should have a strong academic interest in teaching and research.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Applicants for the position should possess a first degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, as well as a PhD degree in a related field. A reasonable period of experience in industry or in a research organisation will be an advantage. Candidates with knowledge beyond a first-degree level in pyrometallurgy or metallurgical thermodynamics will be considered first.
Candidates are expected to have high level knowledge of the development of metallurgical thermodynamic models and application in chemical and phase equilibria and process simulation as applied to process metallurgy.
Candidates who possess in-depth knowledge of fundamental principles and working knowledge of process metallurgy flowsheet design and industrial operations across various commodities (ferrous and non-ferrous) will be highly considered.
Successful candidates for the position would be encouraged to pursue research and related activities in an area of their choice and/or join one of the existing research groups in the school. A record of previous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, as well as supervision of master’s and doctoral students to completion is required.
