The School invites applications for the permanent position of Senior Technician: Hydraulic Engineering.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • NQF Level 6 (National Diploma or equivalent qualification in an appropriate technical field).
  • Excellent hands-on technical skills with hydraulic machines and power tools.
  • Good interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communication skills, good planning and organizing skills, and good computer skills.
  • a valid driver’s license.
  • At least 5 years of related experience, 3 years of which should be in a supervisory position.

ADVANTAGE:

  • registration as an ECSA Professional Engineering Technician or Candidate Engineering Technician.
  • An appropriate Trade Test certificate.

DUTIES:

The successful applicant will report to the Principal Technician and be responsible for:

  • effective supervision of the Technical Assistant, Hydraulic Engineering.
  • carrying out investigations, overseeing and supporting teaching, learning and research activities in the hydraulics laboratories, on- and off-campus.
  • full compliance of the Hillman Building and its laboratory facilities to Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHS&E) protocols.
  • overseeing the manufacture, procurement and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • ensuring that workspaces in the hydraulics laboratories are clean, tidy and free of clutter.
  • additional duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of School.

* ‘Laboratories’ refers to (but is not limited to) all spaces in and around the Hillman Building designated for teaching, learning and research activities.
