CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

TO SERVE ON THE BUREAU FOR TRANSPORT ECONOMICS (BTE) ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The Minister established a Committee of Inquiry, Bureau of Transport Economics Advisory Committee (“Advisory
Committee), in terms of Treasury Regulation 20. The mandate of the Committee is to undertake economic research, provide economic advice on development and implementation of national policies in a manner that advances the country’s economic growth and recovery.
The Advisory Committee among others includes the following:
 Conduct research on the efficacy of current policies in enabling economic growth and reconstruction across all
modes of transport.
 Undertake a gap analysis on current policies based on research identified, recommend interventions and/or
amendments to identified policies.
 Formulate perspectives and recommend interventions geared at moving the needle in enabling the transport sector
to make a tangible impact in economic growth and recovery in line with the National Development Plan (NDP).
 Engage stakeholders and key role players within the industry to inform social compact interventions relevant to thes ector.
 Conduct research and international benchmarking on the role of transport, as an integral part of the network
industries, in enabling economic activity that translates to growth and job creation and make recommendations
thereto.
 Formulate perspectives and recommend interventions aimed at strengthening transport planning across spheres of government to give effect to meaningful economic interventions that improves the lives of citizens.
 Advise on review of Aviation Policy such that it supports the development and growth of the aviation sector in the country, in the SADC region and in the continent, taking due cognisance of the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market.
 Advise on the implementation of the Comprehensive Maritime Policy in a manner that gives practical effect to the Ministerial Priority of creating a maritime nation.
 Advise on the development and implementation of the Public Transport Subsidy Policy in ensuring its efficacy in effecting economic empowerment of previously disadvantaged operators while reducing the cost of transport for  workers and unwinding the apartheid spatial planning legacy.
 Advise on the development and implementation of the National Land Transport Policy envisaged in section 5(1) of the National Land Transport Act, 2009.
 Render advice or provide input on implementation of critical interventions with economic implications as may be
determined by the Minister or the Accounting Officer, from time to time.

Note: Applicants are to note Treasury Regulation 20, Appointment to be for the period not exceeding 24 months.
The Minister of Transport hereby invites suitable parties to apply for the appointment to serve as Bureau for Transport Economics (BTE) Advisory Committee Members.
